One of the first things I do every morning is scour through my Facebook news feed. At this point in my life, it is pretty much the only time I have to do so anymore.
Lotta stuff in there, from how my friends are doing to other's triumphs and tragedies... and a crap ton of information about what people just ate or cooked, cat memes and political diatribes.
Within it all, a nugget of wisdom can sometimes appear.
I saw one the other day. It was a quote. I love quotables... and this one really rang with me.
"Each person you meet is going through things that you have no idea about. Do not make assumptions unless you are in their shoes."
This touched on me because it described something I feel deep inside in words that almost seem to be written by my heart.
People assume a lot of shit. Oftentimes, they assume that because someone else fed them that shit in the first place. A lot of it could easily be avoided with communication... something that doesn't seem to be common practice any more, despite the world having more ways to communicate with each other than ever before.
Long story short: Nobody speaks for me. Few know what runs through my mind or my heart. I can count those people on a few fingers, and even then, there are always things I simply keep to myself.
Nobody has the right to tell others what I think about this or that... or how I feel about something... or what my opinion on something is. Only I have that right. Only I can express those thoughts, feelings and opinions for myself.
So to anyone out there who enjoys telling others what I think or how I feel about something: Up your nose with a rubber hose, assholes. You don't have the right, and there's gonna be a pretty hard "coming to Jesus" chat coming for a lot of you in time. I will no longer stand for this.
To anyone who has been told that I feel this way or think that way about anything: Come talk to me. Don't let the agendas of other people determine your opinions of me, how I operate or what I'm about. Don't let anyone tell you that I'm too busy to have that conversation with you, either. I determine what I am and am not too busy for... and only I can speak to what I think, how I feel, what my goals and agenda are, etc.
Nobody knows the fights I'm fighting but me and a literal handful of others.
Nobody speaks for me but me. If you haven't come to me, you don't have the story.
Seems a lot of people are selling the rights to a story they wrote themselves.
And I'm sick of it.
